Privacy policy

The short version

This site has no accounts, no sign-up forms and no newsletter. We do not ask for your name or email address, and we do not sell personal information. We use analytics to see which pages are read, and some links to insurers are affiliate links.

Information you give us

• The age calculator. The species, breed and age you choose are used in your browser to work out the result, and they appear in the page address so you can share or bookmark it. We do not store them against your identity.
• The other tools. Scores, ticks, weights and day logs you enter in our tools are worked out in your browser. The quality-of-life tool can save your scores and day log, and it saves them only in your own browser's storage on your device; they are not sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes them.
• Email. If you email us, we receive your address and whatever you write, and we use it only to read and answer your message.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, ours records some technical information when you visit, through our hosting provider and Google Analytics:

• Pages you visit, including the calculator choices in the page address
• Which insurer links are clicked and which breed is used in the calculator, as anonymous counts
• Browser type, device type and operating system
• Referring website or search
• General location (country or region), with IP addresses anonymized in analytics

Cookies

Google Analytics sets cookies to tell visits apart. We have turned off its advertising and ad-personalization features. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the site works without them.

We do not currently show advertising. If that changes, we will update this policy before any advertising cookies are used.

• To understand which pages are useful and improve the site
• To keep the site secure and working
• To reply when you email us

Sharing

We do not sell or rent personal information. Information is shared only with:

• Service providers that run the site for us, such as hosting and analytics
• Authorities where the law requires it or to protect our rights

Affiliate and third-party links

Some links, including links to pet insurers, are affiliate links. When you follow one, the destination site and its affiliate network may set their own cookies and collect information under their own privacy policies, which we do not control. Anything you give an insurer or other third party is given to them, not to us.

Data security

We take reasonable measures to protect the limited information we handle. No internet transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you and to have it corrected or deleted. Because we do not run accounts or collect contact details through the site, in most cases the only personal information we hold is email you have sent us. To make a request, email us.

Children's privacy

Our website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe we have, please contact us.

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes are posted on this page with a new date.
