Dental disease
Bad breath, red gums, dropping food. A dental check helps more than most things.
Patellar luxation
A skipping step or a leg held up briefly. Usually mild; ask about grading.
Heart disease
Coughing, tiring easily or faster breathing at rest. Ask for a heart check.
Hypoglycemia
Low blood sugar; wobbliness or weakness. Small regular meals help.
Collapsed trachea
A honking cough, worse with excitement or a collar. Use a harness.
Food
- A senior food sized for a small dog.
- Watch the weight; adjust portions as activity drops.
- Small, frequent meals if teeth or appetite fade.
- Fresh water always in reach.
- Ask about prescription diets if a condition appears.
Exercise and comfort
