Hip dysplasia
Stiffness after rest, bunny-hopping, reluctance on stairs.
Progressive retinal atrophy
Night blindness first, then gradual vision loss.
Epilepsy
Seizures, often starting young. Note the timing and length for the vet.
Addison's disease
Vague, on-and-off tiredness, vomiting or poor appetite. Worth a blood test.
Bloat
A swollen belly, retching without result, restlessness. This is an emergency.
Food
- A senior food sized for a medium-sized dog.
- Watch the weight; adjust portions as activity drops.
- Joint supplements for mobility.
- Fresh water always in reach.
- Ask about prescription diets if a condition appears.
Exercise and comfort
- Regular but gentler routines.
- A warm, padded bed away from draughts.
- Keep up grooming and dental care.
- Vet visits every six months.
- Behaviour changes can be pain. Say so at the visit.
