Hip dysplasia
Stiffness after rest, bunny-hopping, reluctance on stairs.
Elbow dysplasia
Front-leg lameness that worsens after exercise.
Osteosarcoma
Bone cancer, often a limp or a swelling on a leg. Have limps checked.
Heart problems
Coughing, tiring easily or faster breathing at rest. Ask for a heart check.
Bloat
A swollen belly, retching without result, restlessness. This is an emergency.
Food
- A senior food sized for a large dog.
- Watch the weight; adjust portions as activity drops.
- Joint supplements for mobility.
- Fresh water always in reach.
- Ask about prescription diets if a condition appears.
Exercise and comfort
- Regular but gentler routines.
- An orthopaedic bed for the joints.
- Keep up grooming and dental care.
- Vet visits every six months.
- Behaviour changes can be pain. Say so at the visit.
